The importance of oiling your chain
A good chainsaw will give you years of trouble-free service, but that’s only if you treat it right.
“Machine oils are essential for performance and increasing the lifespan of your chainsaw,” says Michelle Sordi of Husqvarna Canada, the world’s largest producer of outdoor power equipment. “Optimal cutting performance comes from using the best products both inside and out.”
Follow these tips to ensure you are keeping your saw well oiled:
1. Invest in pre-mixed fuel: A high octane, ethanol-free product like Husqvarna’s 2-Stroke engine oils provide the perfect balance of engine lubrication, detergency and exhaust output. This ensures engines run longer, cleaner with lower exhaust emissions. These oils also contain fuel stabilizers to help reduce the risk of engine failure caused by spoiled gas.
2. Oil your chain and bar: Too keep the chain of your chainsaw moving smoothly along its bar, ensure you are applying oil with a premium tackifier that adheres the oil to the bar and chain for increased cutting time. Greatly reducing friction and welding of metal parts under high loads, Husqvarna carries its X-Guard Premium Bar and Chain Oils in three formulations including All Season, Low Temperature (which is rated down to -45C) and Biodegradable which does so in less than 28 days.
3. Ask for help: Sometimes you just need help. Taking your saw into a local dealer will allow you to get the best one-on-one support from a professional who will ensure that your saw is properly oiled and ready to start the season at peak performance.
